Amidst all the Covid19 Coronavirus headlines dominating the news cycle recently, there was another story that caught my eye and caused me to reflect on something which I deal with almost every day with my clients. It’s the subject of how to feel forgiveness for someone who can’t or won’t ever acknowledge their own guilt. The offender may be deceased, or if living, they are not able to comprehend how much they have hurt my client.
The news story which illustrated this for me was the sentencing of former Hollywood movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, who is now a convicted Rapist and sentenced to 23 years in prison for his sex crimes. During his pre-sentence statement he told the court that he has ‘fond memories’ of his accusers and he (and his Lawyers) maintained that all the “activities” between him and his accusers were consensual. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8100949/Im-going-hell-Harvey-Weinstein-tells-court-feels-remorseful-does-NOT-apologize.html
He’ll probably die in prison, but baring any change of heart, he’ll probably continue to insist on his version of events until the end of his days. However, his victims will probably be dealing with trauma caused by him for decades after he is gone. So, what can they do? The old “forgive and forget’ or “let it go, it’s over” platitudes are woefully inadequate in this case.
Normally, the acceptable, answer is that these victims need “therapy” or “counseling” and depending on the training of the Therapist that can run from Biblical based forgiveness to a seemingly endless life sentence of talk therapy sessions. According to an article I found in Psychology Today – “There is a middle ground between the trauma of unforgivable hurt and wholesale forgiveness. It’s the concept of acceptance. The patient learns to accept the unforgivable”. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-intelligent-divorce/201301/unforgivable-hurt-what-do-you-do-now
Mere acceptance, however, is not the approach most people will want to take. What do I, as a 5-PATH ® Hypnotist suggest? How about completely resolving all of the “unforgivable hurt” through the power of your subconscious. But, how can that be achieved? Well, the subconscious is where fears and automatic reactions are generated. Getting into the subconscious, accessing the information there and getting the necessary insight is something that a good 5 Path Hypnotist® is trained to do.
