WARNING: My opinions are not the norm. The mental health issues in this country are destressing to me, so I have begun to share some things you won’t find in mental health journals or peer reviewed research. The only thing I care about is what works, so I do my own research. In fact, I am constantly experimenting, but I am not a scientist. I’m just an old lady who lives in Texas and hypnotizes people. I’ve been doing this for nearly 20 years. So, if you really want to understand depression from another angle, please read on, but be sure to read with an open mind.
One other thing. I don’t use AI to write my articles. For better or worse, this is all me.
Depression seems complicated, but for the most part, it’s not. It’s not complicated because normal depression is simply a response to being frustrated. If you take time to look back at what led to the feeling, you would see that at some point you were frustrated because you were trying to change something. You were trying to change something because whatever was happening at the time didn’t feel good. That original “not good” feeling was what could be called a primary feeling. Here are some examples of primary feelings: Fear, Sadness, anger, loneliness or guilt. (Cal Banyan does a very good job explaining more about feelings in his book, The Secret Language of Feelings if you would like to learn more.)
So, for instance, if you were lonely, you would have felt “bad” and you might have begun doing activities to connect with people to make friends or find a partner. If those activities didn’t seem to work, no matter how hard you tried that would have been frustrating. Eventually, if this kept up, you would feel hopeless or depressed. Loneliness was the primary feeling, frustration the secondary feeling and depression the tertiary and also final feeling in this scenario.
When you do look back in your memory if you are not sure when you felt frustrated or what primary feeling began this whole saga, you are not alone. Sometimes, stuff just gets buried and forgotten. This is why depression continues. The origin of it seems lost or hard to find. You could get on meds, but meds have all kinds of nasty side effects. Why not consider an organic solution? Why not find someone who has the map and knows where the treasure is buried?
In my work, most clients start getting over their feelings of depression in the very first session, even though I do not work on depression ever. The very first session just has that kind of positive impact. The reason depression gets better so fast is because depression causes a person to feel like there is no hope. The antidote to hopelessness is hope, and bringing hope is the first criteria for phase one of my work. But, since I don’t want hopelessness/depression to come back, I need to do deeper work in the next session.
The deeper work with clients is to find and overcome the root cause or causes of the primary feeling, not the secondary or tertiary feeling, and it will surprisingly be based on something my client erroneously perceived sometime in the distant past.
Once the erroneous perception is seen in its true light, clients with some guidance can change it, and have long lasting relief. They will have no further need to revert to being depressed anymore. In fact, most clients will leave the session feeling hopeful, optimistic, energetic and happier. All these changes will come with no meds, no doctor’s visit and no real work done on depression itself.
Now, I know in the case of loneliness, it can seem like more than a perception is causing this problem and I hope to address that very soon in an article written exclusively about loneliness. What actually is happening may surprise you and I can’t wait to share it. So, if this interests you just sign up for my newsletter at www.familyfirsthypnosis.com . Better yet if loneliness, hopelessness or depression are a problem for you, you could just schedule a free 30-minute phone consultation to talk to me personally.
One last word. The cause of feeling hopeless can also be the cause of many other things. To name a few lack of sleep or too much sleep, porn use, unhappy relationships, overeating, feeling stuck, having a feeling of not knowing who you are or feeling disconnected, drinking or drugs (to feel uplifted) and more. So, when this is dealt with properly a whole lot of things can improve in your life. Or like one client told me once, “This is like getting a mental overhaul!”.
(Please note if you are under a medical or mental health professional’s care for a diagnosed condition such as CLINICAL DEPRESSION, ALCOHOL OR DRUG DEPENDENCE, PTSD ADHD, ANXIETY, PANIC DISORDERS, SUICIDAL THOUGHTS, ADDICTIONS or PHOBIAS you must continue all prescribed medicines and follow all directions given. When I use words such as “depression” I am using a word commonly used in the vernacular (everyday language) to describe a feeling, thought pattern or behavior. I do not diagnose, nor do I treat medical and/or mental health issues. Keep in mind that mental health and medical professionals refer clients out to me due to my specialty -my subconscious work, and my sessions are very often used in conjunction with their treatment.)
